Listed Building Advice

We are unable to offer refunds on our pre-application service once we have validated your request.

There are many ways in which the Conservation Team can give advice to homeowners and building custodians depending on the complexity and nature of the enquiry. Please note that the information available through this route is Conservation ONLY. If planning advice is required, please use the Planning Pre-application service.

General advice

For those who are considering purchasing a listed building and have some general questions about any restrictions there may be, or for listed building owners who are not sure whether Listed Building Consent (LBC) would be required for their proposals.

Using this form you can book a 15-minute call from a Conservation Officer, or by emailing historicenvironment@greatercambridgeplanning.org you can get general advice about your listed building.

Site visit and discussion

A discussion on site with a Conservation Officer, please note no written feedback is provided with this service. The fee for this will be £216 and you will need to complete this form for the site visit to be arranged.

Site visits for general advice can be set-up promptly, usually within 10 days from validation. There is no requirement to submit plans or information beforehand, although anything you can send could aid discussions.

Pre-application advice

This is a more formal process directed at proposals that may involve complex or extensive changes to a listed building. It includes a site visit and written advice, A one-off fee of £437 is payable on application. If you wish for a meeting following the site visit, the fee would be £545.

Submissions for pre-application advice will need to include a location plan and some text on the background to the proposals. If available, any proposed drawings or sketches would also be useful so that the Conservation Officer has an idea of what is being considered before they come to site. Once this information has been submitted and validated, a site visit can generally be arranged within the next 10 days from receipt in the Conservation Team. A written response will be provided within 2 weeks of the site visit.
